LIGHT SERMON

To those of you who know something about photography, you know how important light is to taking a good picture. If it’s too dark or if you don’t use a flash, your picture will be very dark. If you have too much light, your picture will be washed out.

I am a outdoor photographer and light is very important to me. I’m always on the lookout for a scene with just the right light. It is easy for me to find the light and beauty in the natural world. The beauty can be so overwhelming in nature that we forget to see the beauty in people. I often forget to look at people in the right light. We must remember that we are children of the light.
Ephesians 5:8-9

And as children of the light, we are reminded of three things:

#1-We are children in spite of our physical age and as such we have yet to achieve our full potential. We must remain open to God’s calling. Remember Moses and how he was reluctant to lead his people to the Promised Land. Yet with God’s help, he became a great leader.

And he said, “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom.”

#2-We are reminded of the light. John 8:12 says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” If we follow him as his children, we will always have a clear path to our reward.

#3-We are reminded, especially at this time of the year of the light that led the shepherds and the wise men to the manger in Bethlehem. This is what Christmas is all about. This is why we are here. We are to be looking for Christ and when we find him, we are to follow him. We must keep following the light of Christ.

Ephesians 5:8-14
John 8:12

LIGHT PRAYER
Lord, help us to see the light that guides us to you. Help us to see the light that is you. Help us to see the light that is in us and around us. Help us to see the light in our brothers and sisters. Help us to see the light that is you. Amen.
